Kid's Connect - 1/3/2013

A new year and new resolutions.  Some of us make them and some don't - either way it is always good to do a little "life assessment" to see if things are on the right track.  Maybe it's your physical health, maybe a little therapy is in order - how are you and God doing?  The beginning of the year is a great time to kick off a Bible reading plan to work your way through it in a year.  Many resources are available to help you do that successfully.  How's your prayer time working?  Are you feeling confident in that area - or maybe you would like some guidance?  I focus my attention on these two areas to you as parents - but ultimately my hope is that you do these very publicly so that your children see this as an everyday part of your life.  This is a HUGE step in what you can be doing to have them be on a solid track with their faith development.  Read the Bible together - shorter stories for younger children and the full scripture with older children.  Elementary aged children should be reading every day - have them incorporate this into their required reading time.  Praying out loud for them and with them will only help them grasp how they can do the same.  Create goals together for a great 2013!!

Day Set Apart
Are you ready to grow in your discipleship journey?  What does that even mean?  On
Saturday, January 26, 9-3:30, here at Central, Terry Walling, President of LeaderBreakthru, will be presenting on discipleship pathways and the power of coaching in our ongoing growth and development.  If you have had the privilege of hearing Terry speak before you know it will be well worth your time. Register by calling the church office or on our website, clcelkriver.org.  Don't miss out on this valuable resource!!

HomeFront Fun – Friday, January 18
All families with children ages birth to 5th grade (older siblings are welcome too!) are invited to join us on Friday, January 18 from 5:30-7:30 pm at CLC. We’ll be exploring the environment of Storytelling. This is an opportunity for parents to come and be equipped and encouraged to be the primary faith builders in the lives of their children. We’ll start off with some dinner and then move on to stations and various hands-on activities that will support the spiritual formation of your children.   So we have enough food, please RSVP to Kristen Norby at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 763-441-2363 ext. 236.  We'll be introducing the Spiritual Parenting Course to parents that evening so you won't want to miss it!

Third Grade Bible Classes and Celebration
Third Grade Bible Classes will be held on Thursday, January 10, 17, 24, & 31 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Third graders and their parents are invited to participate in this introductory Bible class. Are your children older than third grade but missed the class? We’d love to have you join us.  Following the class, children receive their bibles from their parents at a special presentation during the worship services on Sunday, February 10, followed by a family meal and celebration.  A mailing with registration forms and information went out the last week of December.  Be sure to contact us if you don't receive it.

Current Environment: Storytelling The power of The Big God Story impacts our lives by giving us an accurate and awe-inspiring perspective of how God has been moving throughout history.  It is the story of redemption, salvation, and hope and tells how I have been grafted into it by grace.  It further compels us to see how God is using every person's life and is creating a unique story that deserves to be told for God's glory.

"God has a big story and I can be part of it!"

Kid's Connect - December 1

It's beginning to look a lot like . . . . . BETHLEHEM! Whoa - the Lobby is currently under a major transformation and we can't wait to see you all TONIGHT for "A Night in Bethlehem"! The shops will be open from 4-7 pm. Come by and stay for awhile . . . visit with the shepherds, create a basket, eat some treats - it truly will be a wonderful evening celebrating and lifting up the birth of Jesus! Have you invited a friend or neighbor?

Current Environment: Love & Respect Without love, our faith becomes futile. This environment recognizes that children need an environment of love and respect in order to be free to both receive and give God's grace. Innate in this environment is the value that children are respected because they embody the image of God. We must speak to them not at them, and we must commit to an environment where love and acceptance are never with withheld due to one's behavior.

Kid's Connect - November 18

So many ways to be giving of ourselves this holiday season. This is a great time to cultivate a servant heart in your children. Helping them not to be so focused on "their list and their needs" but on what they can be thankful for and what the gift of Christmas is about to us as Christians. Whether it is giving food to CAER to support Thanksgiving meals for those who do not have, or baking bars/pies for the Thanksgiving meal at church, Operation Christmas Child shopping, or supporting a Christmas Sponsor family and shopping for them together as a family. So many ways that your family can serve together to reach out to those who need a big dose of God's love in their lives! And your children can do that - they just need a little help and guidance from you. If you need more information on any of the opportunities above I'd be happy to help guide you or contact the church office and someone can assist you.

Family Movie Night – “Fiction or Non-Fiction?” Friday, November 16 - CLC Student Center - 6:30-8:30 pm
Join us tonight for popcorn and to watch some of our favorite classic Christmas cartoon movies. After the movies we’ll talk about what the true meaning of Christmas is and why we celebrate it.

Operation Christmas Child
Shoeboxes are due by this Sunday, November 18!!

"A Night in Bethlehem" - Saturday, December 1, 4-7 pm
Mark your calendars if you haven't already for a wonderful evening for your family! Come to Bethlehem and expereince whiat life was like at the time of Christ's birth!

We are still in need of a number of volunteers to help with this event. Our needs include setup and cleanup, and a photographer.

Current Environment: Serving This posture of the heart asks the question, "What needs to be done?" It allows the Holy Spirit to cultivate a sensitivity to others and focuses on a cause bigger than one individual life. It helps fulfill the mandate that as Christ followers we are to view our lives as living sacrifices that we generously give away.

"Asks the question, 'What needs to be done?'"

Kid's Connect 9-6-12

Hey Families!  Thanks to those of you who have gotten your Children and Family registrations in already.  We'd like them in by September 9 to help with volunteer recruitment.  Our online registration has hit a glitch right now, so it is currently disabled.  Please submit the paper form you received in the mail or stop by the church office to receive a new one.  Be sure to visit our table in the lobby this Sunday to get signed up for the September 14 HomeFront Fun event.

HomeFront Monthly Activity:

Game Time - I Spy ~ One of the best ways to connect with your family is to let your guard down and have fun together.  This game provides that opportunity and reinforces another way to make your children aware of their surroundings.  Remind them to always be on the lookout for how God wants to use them in the lives of others.  Need game directions?  Check out the Tru HomeFront App.

Be sure to grab a hard copy of the HomeFront Monthly: Responsibility from the Welcome Center this week. Or check it out on the HomeFront App.

Current Environment: Responsibility This environment captures the ability to take ownership for one's life, gifts, and resources before God.  A child must be challenged to take responsibility for his or her brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as for those who are spiritually lost.  Our hope is that the Holy Spirit will use this environment to allow each child to understand that God has entrusted His world to us.

Do you have a heart for children?

Kid's Connect - July 19,2012

WOW!  What an incredible week with the kids!  VBS was amazing and if there's one phrase that is hanging in the minds of all leaders and kids it is "you, you, you - you can trust God".  What powerful words to continue running through all of our heads!  We had 196 children and over 80 volunteers come together to create an amazing experience in music, movie, crafts, drama, snacks, and games.  To those who helped pray over our week - THANK YOU!  For the many that donated items for our week - THANK YOU!

The children will be sharing songs from VBS at the end of the 9:30 and beginning of the 11:00 services this weekend.  Come and be blessed by their voices!

We are in great need of volunteers to help out on a rotation basis with Children's Chapel at our summer 9:30, 11:00, and 6:00 services.  If you love children and would like to share The Big God Story with them, please contact Kirsten Gill or Kristen Norby.  We also want to start planning for fall - if you'd like to be a part of our ministry in any way, please let us know how you'd like to share your gifts with the kids!

HomeFront Monthly Activity:

As we continue in the environment of Course Correction this week, I encourage you to check out the conversation starter featured in the HomeFront Monthly.  Share these questions aound the dinner table: "How do you know I love you?" annd then, "How do you know God loves you?"

Be sure to grab a copy of the HomeFront Monthly: Course Correction from the Welcome Center this week. Or check it out on the HomeFront App.

Current Environment: Course Correction "When I get off track, God offers me a path of healing."  This environment flows out of Hebrews 12:11-13 and is the direct opposite of punishment.  Instead, biblical discipline for a child encompasses: a season of pain, the building up in love, and a vision of a corrected path for the individual with the purpose of healing at its core.

Tru this Week: Sunday, July 22 – Children’s Chapel at all morning and evening services

Every week we distribute the HomeFront Weekly at Children’s Chapel. These weeklies are a tool for you as parents to use to prepare your child for the story they will hear on Sunday.
