Happy St. Nicholas Day! St. Nicholas was born in Patara, an area that is part of present-day Turkey. He lost both of his parents as a young man and, as a devout Christian, he reportedly used his inheritance to help the poor, needy and sick. Eventually he served as bishop of Myra, a city that is now called Demre.
After his death, the stories of his gift-giving, miracles and work for the poor grew and spread to other parts of the world. Several sources state St. Nicholas is believed to have died on December 6, 343. Eventually St. Nicholas transformed into the legendary character called Santa Claus.
As we ‘Journey to the Unexpected’ this Advent-Christmas season may we remember the true meaning of this season. It is all about giving! God giving us the gift of JESUS and we giving to our neighbors, locally and globally.
I HOPE THAT MANY OF YOU WILL journey to the NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM this Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00PM. Come and see the live goats and chickens and if you have a chance visit the beggar at the well! There will be food, shops and activities for all ages.
In Christ’s NAME, Welcome!
