What is Operation Christmas Child?

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, is the world’s largest Christmas outreach of its kind. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 124 million children affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, and other crises in more than 150 countries and territories.  They partner with local churches to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who receive shoebox gifts and offer a 12-lesson discipleship program, The Greatest Journey, that helps boys and girls learn what it means to follow the Lord and share their faith with others.

How to Pack a Box

Find a Shoebox

Start with an average-size cardboard or plastic shoebox. If you want to wrap it, cover the box and lid separately.

Girl or Boy?

Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.

Fill with Gifts

Select a quality “wow” toy such as a doll, soccer ball with pump, or stuffed animal. Then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. See other suggestions above.  NEW THIS YEAR:  Do NOT include toothpaste or candy.

Pray

Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.

Include $7 and Shipping label

A donation of $7 per box is critical to transport your gift and deliver it into the hands of a child in need.

Standard Shipping label: Donate $7 per box by check to Samaritan’s Purse (note “OCC” on the memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the items inside your shoebox. Print and cut out an appropriate boy/girl label from page 2 of this PDF download. Mark the correct age category and tape the label to the top of your box.*

IMG_1711Follow-Your-Box Shipping label: Donate your $7 online and discover the destination of your shoebox. We’ll email you a special FollowYour-Box label to print and use. Later, you’ll receive a notification about the destination of your shoebox gift.

Drop off

Place a rubber band around each shoebox and bring to Central Lutheran on Sundays
