Building God’s Kingdom by Rescuing Children and Changing Lives is what Robin’s Nest is all about. Their goal is to transform hurting children into spiritually, physically and mentally healthy believers prepared to impact the world around them.
Children find their way to Robin’s Nest through the Child Development Agency of Jamaica. Primarily children come from homes where they have been abused, neglected, left at the hospital or even brought to the agency by their parents who can no longer provide for their children. Most often, the children are sick or malnourished with moderate to severe physical and mental challenges. They are in need of open, loving arms to care for them, pray for them and bring them up in the knowledge of the Lord.
This is where Central Lutheran came into play! The family of Central has financially and prayerfully supported the Nest since 2005. In addition, teams of volunteers traveled to Jamaica in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 after Kelby Klimek took on a Kingdom Assignment to grow the mission of Making Disciples of Jesus.
The experience for each team member was emotional, gratifying and filled with indescribable blessings. And yes, we all wanted to bring one of those precious little ones home in our backpacks!
As we wait for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead another team back to this orphanage, we continue to financially support them through individual donations and occasional fundraisers, such as Snacks ‘n Such ~ usually held in the spring. You can bless the children at the Nest with a donation any time during the year, just talk with Kris Geslin in the church office.
You can learn more about the entire story of how Robin’s Nest Children’s Home was started in 1998 by Michelle Robinette on their web site; it is an amazing story of what “Follow Me” is all about. http://www.robinsnestchildrenshome.org
