CAER (Community Aid Elk River)

283x103CAER-LogoCAER (Community Aid Elk River) is a non-profit, community-based Christian organization, whose mission is to provide emergency food, clothing, and special assistance to individuals and families in need. They are located just 2 miles from our church on Proctor Avenue. Central is one of the founding members of CAER and we have a responsibility as a congregation to assist those in our own community.

CAER served 35 – 40% more families in 2008 than in 2007 due to the downturn in the economy, and 2009 is similar so far. In the past, CAER has been able to get most of their food needs filled inexpensively through the local Second Harvest food bank. However needs have increased everywhere so Second Harvest has imposed limits on certain foods and has run out of some all together. In addition, Second Harvest does not supply daily living essentials such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry and dish detergent, feminine products, etc.

Cornerstone Auto Mobile Pack Events

As a MobilePack host, Cornerstone Auto has committed to packing 300,000 meals with over 1500 volunteers at our 3 locations.  Our goal is to raise $75,000 for God’s hungry children.  At just 22 cents per meal and just two hours per food-packing shift, your donations of money and time go a long way to help this effort.

D.I.V.I.N.E. Institute

divineBe the hands of Christ to children in St. Paul.  Workers are needed the following two Saturdays to build an interior wall, paint, and clean up a classroom on Selby and Victoria in St. Paul.  This classroom houses the ministry of DIVINE Institute, an educational program for inner city children.  Aretta-Rie Johnson is the program designer and passion behind this mission to elevate the interpersonal skills of youth through literacy and enrichment initiatives.  In addition to workers, volunteers are needed beginning in July to tutor students.  If you have an interest or sense of call to either of these opportunities, please contact Sonja Dixon in the church office or Bev Johnson.

Pilot Outreach

Pilot-OutreachThe Ministry
Pilot Outreach is under the direction of a lay Jail Chaplain who is supported by a governing board.

It is comprised of over 30 volunteers who, up to three times weekly, work directly with male and female inmates.

Pilot Outreach offers the Gospel of Jesus Christ in both a small group and individual, one-on-one settings.  Through this model of ministry, scores of inmates find salvation in Christ and continually demonstrate their appreciation for the volunteer’s presence.

In addition to  building relationships with inmates, Pilot Outreach also provides Bibles, books and other Christian materials without cost to the inmates.  All donations are directed entirely to ministry functions.  There are zero administrative costs as all ministry work is on a volunteer basis.

School Supply Drive

During August we will be collecting School Supplies for Elk River students and for children around the world.

Most needed supplies for Elk River students are backpacks, packs of either wide or narrow lined paper, markers (washable and permanent), highlighters, scissors, erasers, calculators, pencils and ballpoint pens.

Most needed items for missions are 30-centimeter rulers or rulers with centimeters on one side and inches on the other, blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well), pencil sharpeners, and 2 1/2" erasers.   Other items needed are 70 sheet notebooks (wide or college-ruled), #2 pencils with erasers, ball-point pens (no gel ink) and boxes of 16 or 24 crayons.
