Dear Sisters in Christ,

Thank you to MariAnne Medin for our devotional this week

This bible passage is about Paul, who was in prison, writing to the Christians at Philippi and thanking them for the gift they had sent him and to encourage and strengthen those believers.

But, these verses also reveal the close relationship that Paul has with Timothy as a mentor and fellow believer in Christ. Paul had taken Timothy under his wing and taught and showed him how to live for Christ and now Paul was so confident of him that he wanted to send Timothy to Philippi to help and encourage the Christians at Philippi.

Ryan had preached a sermon not long ago about “old wizards” and “young bucks” – and that if we are the “old wizards” we should show God’s love to the “young bucks” to help and encourage them, and to pass on the wisdom and insight we’ve gained from our own experiences.

I believe that God has prepared each and every one of us to do His work to further His kingdom. Some of the experiences you’ve had that may have brought you great pain – will be the perfect way to connect with someone else to help them in their situation.

Genesis 50:20 says: ”You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (NIV)

So, use those painful experiences in your life, those hard-learned lessons, to bring about something good.

So, this begs the question….

Who have you taken under your wing – to help and encourage and mentor?

How are you using the experiences in your life to help someone else?

PRAYER: Father God, I thank you for the experiences in my life that have prepared me to serve others in your name. Open my eyes and my heart to what you want me to do, and to whom you want me to show your love to today.

Central Women’s next book discussion will be on Tuesday, August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Elk River Activity Center to talk about Britt-Marie was Here by Fredrik Backman. It is a heartwarming story about a socially awkward, fussy busybody Swedish woman who walks out on her cheating husband. She finds a job as a caretaker in a decrepit recreation center in a backwater town full of misfits, drunkards, and layabouts. Somehow she ends up coaching a supremely untalented children’s soccer team to victory. While it is a quirky and entertaining story, there is much to be learned from it. The books are already in the church office and at Holy Grounds on Sunday mornings. They are $10.00 each. All women are welcome and to bring a friend.

And if you like series of books, Central’s library has one that you will enjoy. We have 8 in the series of the Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson which are about a mismatched diverse group of women who are often called to be out of their comfort zone. The books are humorous and light, but deal with real issues faced by women today. They do not need to be read in order to be enjoyed and they are on a shelf in the middle of the library right above the check-out system.
