SHE Equip – November 8, 2017

Dear Sisters in Christ,

Thank you to Jane Kvalheim for our devotional this week.

In Matthew 16:13-19, Peter declares Jesus is the Messiah. “But what about you?” Jesus asks Simon Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man but by my Father in heaven.”

Have you ever been talking or praying with someone and the words coming out of your mouth even surprise yourself? (In a good way.) You might be thinking, “Whoa! Where did that come from?” Somehow the words just flow and provide a message that someone needs to hear.

Mind you this does not happen to me frequently, (Just ask my journey group as they hear me fumble while trying to master praying out loud.) but when it does I recognize that God has a message for someone and he is using me to deliver it.

I think the same thing happened to Peter when Jesus asked him “Who do you say that I am?” The other disciples speculated with guesses such as John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or a prophet. Peter just knew; revealed to him by no one but God. I think this message from God delighted Jesus for in v. 18 Jesus proclaims, “And I tell you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build My church.”

In the verses that follow Jesus predicts His death and revels to his disciples that things are about to get bad…really bad. Simon Peter is scared and confused and has just been told that he is in going to be the one left in charge. But God’s message to Peter also come with a promise; v19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.”

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for guiding our words and thoughts. Help us to trust you even when things are bad…really bad. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you. Do not let fear block the view of your beautiful promises. Amen
